About Me

National Service 1956/58 Cardington,Bridgenorth,Compton Bassett, SaxaVord,Leeming. Teleprinter Op.SAC. 1st DJ on radio Saxa. Now 70yrs and just started with laptop and internet ,plodding on in my own way with it,hence my probs in downloading pictures etc but it will come to hand I'm sure. I draw and paint but the `internet` has put a halt on that for a while. I started to write notes for `memoirs` some time ago, so just getting them on `WORD` programme on computer at this time. Started Leeds first Kendo club in around 68 and instructed Self Defence at US Base Menwith Hill around 1963/65. Once got a good thrashing off Pat Roach (Bomber from Aufweidesien Pet) when he was wrestling in Leeds and trained in the club where I was working at the time, foolishly I asked him if I could `spar` with him a bit, but you live and supposedly learn dont you?lol  he was a big skillfull and nice guy. I get to a Jazz club at least once a week and many of the fans are older than me so thats a plus.Very pleased when Compton B came to mind and I found this site as I diddled aimlessly on the netbig grin Won't bore you with any more waffle but will look forward to `logging in` a few times a week  for any tit bits and more than hopefully for a `contact`. I had some fun in my short time at CB and once I get `the hang of things' re sending old pictures on the comp. then I can relate to one or two.Take care all and lets talk soon. Best regards Bob.

I did not do military service because of  serious ill health.

However I am an avid reader of WW2 history and I have visited all the D Day Beaches and battlefields.

I have many war time memories and I was evacuated from Birmingham  in 1940.

Currently reading Antony Beevors Crete. I have an extensive library.

I saw Tarrantinos Inglorious Bastards last week. Enjoed it.

I am an extensive reader of the the American War of Independence and the American Civil War

An armchair war man or qaurter back as my American buddies would say

Favourite war quote. U. S Grant arrived a bit late for the Battle of the Wilderness to find his soldiers running as fast as they could from the front. He had one brought to him. #Why are  you running away soldier# ?he asked. #Cos I cant fly # was the response.

 He forgave him.

About Me

Served Air Movements, RAF Lyneham early 1955 to Jan 1958 - saw the Suez crisis - trained, with a Lyneham colleague, as an Air Despatcher (with the Army) 47 Company RASC - dropped personnel, small freight and equipment, large cargoes, jeeps and field guns from Hastings aircraft. - seconded to Christmas Island for the first two Hydrogen Bomb tests 1956 and 1957. Dropped parachute suppies to outlying Islands. Spent 14 days under canvas at ground zero on Malden Island backloading the recording equipment - using the last three Dakotas in RAF Service. Managed to reach full Corporal. As I appear to be the only Army trained RAF Air Despatcher (my colleague never put his training to use) I was invited back to Lyneham in October 2006 to fly on a training sortie on a Hercules with the Army to compare Air Despatching over 50 years.
